Psychotherapy - Dialectical Behavior Therapy - Compassionate Inquiry
Dayne Bartlett, MSW, LICSW, LADC
My name is Dayne Bartlett and I am a Clinical Social Worker and Alcohol and Drug Counselor. Welcome to my practice Create Meaning. I am honored to have the opportunity to serve those who are seeking relief from emotional pain, trauma, confusion and difficult circumstances. The individuals I assist consistently experience significant healing, goal accomplishment and create more fulfillment in their lives. The opportunities are limitless when we are willing to build trust, create understanding and practice new behaviors. Thank you for considering entrusting me with your care and don't hesitate to reach out with questions.
Therapy is a valuable tool for anyone seeking to improve their mental health, overcome challenges, or simply gain a deeper understanding of themselves. Whether you're facing a specific issue or looking for a space to explore your thoughts and feelings, therapy can provide helpful support and guidance.
From your first contact with my practice, you will experience a welcoming and accepting atmosphere. I believe in the power of a collaborative therapeutic relationship, where your voice is heard, and your experiences are validated. Together, we will explore your concerns and develop strategies that foster insight, acceptance and positive change.
My core focus is on connecting the Mind and Body together for holistic healing. I recognize that chronic medical conditions and emotional distress are closely related. This approach is anchored in two complementary methodologies: Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Compassionate Inquiry (CI). I view healing not just as symptom reduction, but as a deep connection that resolves emotional and physical pain to create a "life worth living."
Importance of integrating the Mind and Body
I often work with individuals who were referred to me by their medical provider. If a client is interested, I often collaborate with other providers who offer wellness practices like integrative medicine, yoga, acupuncture, physical activity, chiropractic medicine, massage therapy and other wellness options.
Mind (Cognitive/Behavioral): I use the evidence-based structure of DBT to teach concrete skills—like Mindfulness, Emotion Regulation, Interpersonal Effectiveness and Distress Tolerance—to change the emotional and behavioral patterns that exacerbate suffering.
Body (Somatic, Emotional & Physiological): I integrate the principles of Compassionate Inquiry to explore the profound link between unprocessed emotions, past trauma and present-day bodily sensations or chronic pain. This somatic approach uses curiosity and compassion to gently access the body's wisdom.
Wisdom (Acceptance & Meaning): The foundation of this process is curiosity, compassion, validation and acceptance. Our inner wisdom guides us in ways to integrate experiences, find answers we've been seeking, and reconnect with our authentic self.
DBT helps you address and change cognitive, emotional and behavior patterns, empowering you to overcome challenges. Please visit the DBT page to learn more.
Compassionate Inqury is an individual therapy approach that blends compassion and curiosity together to form a gentle, yet powerful, practice that deepens the understanding of bodily sensations and promotes healing.
DBT-PE is a specialized approach that coincides with DBT to target trauma and the processes it creates in your daily life. Please visit the DBT and DBT-PE page to learn more.
An educational group focused on skills. Skills sections include Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness.
DBT is effective at reducing alcohol or drug use. This program can be tailored specifically towards how to change the patterns that lead into unwanted substance use.
I am a firm believer in the power of a trusting therapeutic relationship. In my practice, I bring authenticity and honesty into our time together. I believe this creates a space of connection, safety and openness. From here, we have the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of your experiences. We can understand internal processes on a biological, cognitive, emotional and spiritual level. Once this occurs, we incorporate concepts and skills that are effective for creating a more fulfilling life.
I have over 10 years experience in the social work field and over 7 years experience providing clinical psychotherapy. I live in Northfield with my Wife, 2 Daughters, and Dog :)
My core trainings include - Foundational Training for DBT by Behavioral Tech. Intensive Training for DBT-PE by Melanie Harned. Online Short Course for Compassionate Inquiry by Gabor Mate and Sat Dharam Kaur.
At this time, my practice is Telehealth appointments only. I do hope to offer in person appointments in the near future.
As you explore this website, you'll find that my practice is geared towards DBT and DBT-SUD. If you are curious about this and simply want to learn more, I would be thrilled to provide more information so that you can consider the therapy or refer someone else. Please don't hesitate to give me a call or email.
Taking the first step toward therapy is a courageous and empowering decision. If you’re ready to embark on this journey, I invite you to give me a call or send an email and we can discuss next steps.
